That person

You never want to be that person. I think you know who I'm talking about. No? Here are a few examples:

That person with the huge piece of spinach in their teeth. Nothing is more distracting during a conversation.

That person with the huge boogar hanging out of their nose. I lied about the spinach, a boogar is much more distracting.

That person with toe curling body oder.

That person at the check out counter chatting on the phone, not paying attention to the transaction and holding up the entire line (GET OFF THE FREAKIN PHONE!).

That person who has deadly bad breath.

That person who cut you off in the left lane, then slows down in front of you (for heavens sake WHY do they do this?).

These people at walmart...

Sorry to those who enjoy it, but I think Planking is dumb.

The underwear revealers, as I like to call them.

Today, though, I was that person. And it was horrifying. The story? Well, when using public bathrooms I always put toilet paper down on the seat as a "guard". Hovering just isn't my thing. Today before grabbing PJ from daycare to go home, I stopped at the bathroom. After PJ and I had walked 90% of the way home I kept feeling something brush up against my leg. Is there a string hanging from my shorts? A bug? What the heck is it? I reach down, touch the back of my thigh, and there it was. A semi-long, white piece of toilet paper stuck to the back of my leg. Oh. my. gawd. I don't think I've ever been more embarrassed in my life.

Keep in mind, I walked around campus (tons of students saw, I'm sure) and half way through town (locals were probably laughing) before I found it. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm going to hole up in my apartment for a month or so. I don't really want to show my face in public for a while.

What is YOUR "that person" moment?

RSS Feed

I've received quite a few emails recently about my RSS feed.Specifically about the fact that it isn't working *sad face*.

After playing around with some settings, I think I may have fixed the problem (yay me!). If you would, please give it a try and let me know if it's working for you. If it's still acting up (darn you technology!), I'll call in the professionals to help me fix it. And by professionals, I mean anybody on this island that is better with blogger/computers/the internet than me. Which is just about everybody in case you were wondering.

Sneaky Sneaky

PJ has started to use his little brain and tap into his inner devil. Lately that devil, disguised as a cute little child, has been terrorizing me. I see it sitting on PJ's shoulder whispering mischief to him and snickering at me. Let me give you a for instance.

Yesterday we ordered Chinese for dinner and I got PJ his favorite dish, pineapple chicken! From the time we got home all I heard was "I'm hungry, I'm hungry, I'm hungry" to which I wanted to scream "I KNOW, CHILL OUT!!!". Instead, I calmly assured him the food was on the way.

The food arrived in the nick of time, PJ was about to go into a fit of rage over how hungry he was. I scooped his rice and pineapple chicken into a bowl, put it on the table, and was thanking god that he would finally stop saying "I'm hungry!". PJ took about 3 bites (not exaggerating) and then the devil came out. He looked up at me and said "Mama, I'm SO full. I go play with transformers now." Woah woah woah! Are you KIDDING me? Half an hour of whining and that's all you're going to eat!? After about ten minutes of pleading with him to eat more, I gave him the "Fine, if you're going to leave the table, you don't get anything for the rest of the night" speech.

Fast forward to bed time. I put him to bed, complete with hugs and kisses. About thirty minutes later, sitting in my room working, I thought I heard his door open. I figured I just imagined it because PJ normally falls asleep pretty quickly. Then, I heard a crinkling sound in the kitchen! A rat, maybe??? I sprang up from the bed, went into the kitchen, and there was PJ with a bag of cookies in his hand. The little devil talked him into trying to steal cookies, BEHIND MY BACK, into his room!!! Needless to say, I gave him a stern talking to, reminded him about the dinner fiasco, and put him back to bed.

Around forty minutes later I was thirsty and went into the kitchen for some water. I noticed PJ's blanket on the floor--weird! Then, a light caught my eye. The fridge was open! Did I forget to close it? And then I saw them. Little feet poking from under the fridge door. CAUGHT AGAIN trying to sneak marshmallows.

Will someone please, please tell me how to get rid of the little devil? Surely there is a way.

Avocado season means....

.....avocado face masks, of course!

Dominica has the most amazing Avocados. They're huge and in abundance here! So, I decided to try my hand at making an Avocado face mask. Why would I want to do this? Here is a little information gathered about Avocados and how they help our skin:

"Avocado contains Vitamins A, K, B6, C (ascorbic acid), folate and potassium and helps hydrate dry and sensitive skin, but is also great for any type of skin. Avocado facial mask makes the skin soft, smooth, fresh and healthy. Both vitamins A and C from the avocado fruit are known to control the signs of aging such as wrinkles and fine lines."

The recipe for an avocado mask:
1 Avocado
1 Tablespoon Honey
1 Tablespoon oil (they suggest almond oil, but any oil you have in your kitchen will do)

What to do:
Step 1: Mash up the avocado until it has a smooth constancy.
Step 2: Add the Honey and Oil to the mashed Avocado
Step 3: Rinse your face  clean, and pat dry.
Step 4: Apply face mask and let it sit for 25-30 minutes
Step 5: Wash off face mask and enjoy!

You might look a little goofy....

Apparently I need some work on Step 1

...but the end product is baby-butt smooth feeling skin! This is such an inexpensive way to take care of your skin, so why not try it? If you do, let me know how you like it!

* The recipe makes enough for about 6 mask applications.

Island Adventures

I've been totally MIA blogging this month, but for good reason! I've got a LOT of fun pictures and adventures to share.

Since medical students study from sun up to sun down, I volunteered to take a very close friend of mines girlfriend and mom around the island while they were here visiting. We had an absolute blast, did a ton of exploring, and have seen just how beautiful this island really is!

Saturday July 9th: Dinner at PBH

Our gorgeous view during dinner in this paradise.
Sunday July 10th: Bense Pool Hike
Group pic before leaving campus!

Hiking through the jungle!
About to cliff jump 15 feet...
...into this natural pool.
Ta-da!!!

Monday July 11th: Indian River Tour
Row boating down Indian River. Fun Fact: Scenes from Pirates of the Caribbean 2 were filmed here!

Meet our awesome tour guide, James Bond. He met the entire cast of Pirates of the Caribbean!!!
Took a little detour to a cute little bar off of Indian River
James made one for each of us!!!!

Tuesday July 12th: PBH Beach
We found a live starfish!!!
Absolutely gorgeous day at the beach

Wednesday July 13th: Secret Beach
Welcome to Secret Beach!

Yep, that's my son chilling on the beach eating KFC.
To get to Secret Beach you have to go by boat. PJ loved every minute of the ride.

Thursday July 14th: Trafalgar Falls
This is my first time seeing a waterfall and it was absolutely breath taking.

Sitting near the bottom of the fall!
Phew, what a whirlwind of a month so far! I hope that if you ever visit Dominica you consider visiting some of these amazing places.

My Little Secret

I've worked up the courage to divulge some very secret information about myself to the world wide web. Information that could ruin my reputation in the eyes of friends, family, and readers everywhere. Okay, here it goes *deep breath*...

I..............

play.......

world of warcraft.

There, I said it. I play World of Warcraft! You don't hate me, do you? Will I forever be labeled a nerd in your eyes? I hope not! I just want to let you know that not everyone that plays this game does so for hours on end holed up in a dark room, is addicted to mountain dew, sports a beiber haircut, and spends every waking hour (when not playing) thinking about their WoW characters gear, upcoming patches, raids, or questing. There really are normal people that play this game too, I promise.

I started playing a year ago when my boyfriend convinced me to give it a try. I've been hooked ever since! And now we not only get to study together during the day, we get to share a hobby we both enjoy at night (one or two nights a week, and that's if we're lucky)! So, does your boyfriend/husband play video games? Do you play with him? I can't be the only female significant other that games with her man! Right?

To take my shameless announcement of playing World of Warcraft one step further.... here is a link to my WoW character, Shiftynikki (if you have any interest in checking it out). And with that, I'm going to go cower in a dark corner somewhere (with my mountain dew and laptop...).
